Bristlecone Pines and White Mountain Peak : Saturday August 15, 2009; met up with members of the KRVHC and explored the Bristlecone Pines in the Schulman Grove. We camped that night at Grandview Campground including some non-,member guests who stopped by to join our festivities. Sunday morning August 16, 2009 we drove to the trail head and hiked White Mountain peak at over 14,200 feet. This was my first time as a group event which included a camp night. Everyone had a good time and agreed we should try this again sometime.

Wildrose to Bald traverse 02-28-2009 : Saturday 02-28-2009; Lisa and Sierra Gator met MooseTracks, Richard P., Len and Bill at Wildrose Campground just in time for a little pre-hike breakfast. After leaving a car shutle on Emigrant Rd; we drove up to the Charcoal Kilns to start our hike. I was hoping for a nice desert hike out of the snow after hiking in snow for the previous 4 weeks. However there was still plenty of snow on the northern and shaded areas - sometimes postholing up above my knees. We hiked the trail(mostly) up to Wildrose Peak. From there we followed the ridgeline to Pk8675 and on to Bald. We descended Nemo Canyon out to our awaiting vehicles on the Emigrant Rd. After the hike - Sierra Gator had to get home to Vegas(soon to return home to the Sierras) and the rest of us went to Wildrose Camp to BBQ and drink. What a fun day and wind down after.

Arugus Hike 2-8-2009 and return 2-15-2009(x10) : Sunday 02-08-2009; Lisa and I went for a hike in the Argus Range. They day started out with fog which kept the temperatures down. Soon after reaching the ridge we were hiking in snow. The snow made for some tricky route finding on some of the snow covered boulders. We decided not to push on to the summit blocks.

Coso Petroglyphs - snow in the desert - 2-7-2009 : 2-7-2009; scheduled hike into Coso Petroglyph sight. Although the weather was predicted to be snow, we still had 26 people show up for this hike - great turnout under the circumstances. The last part of our drive was in snow and we had snow throughout the hike. As it turns out, many of the petroglyphs were covered by snow or not easy to get at due to snow covered slick rocks. But noone complained and we all had a fun time hiking.

This was my 6th year in a row of hiking for New Years Day - an excellent tradition. This was my 3rd summit of this peak - all from different starting points and routes. Today we started from Sheep Springs and check out some petroglyphs and old Indian camp sights. I accidentally deleted my pictures at the summit so I lost all the approach hike shots.

Porter and Sentinel 04-12-2008 : Tom G., Snow Nymph and I drove up the the saddle below the Porter Mine to complete a hike to Porter Peak and then traverse a long ridge and summit Sentinel Peak. When I did this last year we dropped down into Panamint City to camp. This time we traversed back and out for a long 13.5 hour hike which included going back over Porter Peak a second time. Ranboze, Trail Trekker and Chip(Cougee) started later than us - there goal was Porter Peak and then south to Morman Peak and out. I wish I could spend more time in the Panamints hiking and exploring. So many trip alternates planned each time I come up here. After the hike I drove home so I could get ready to meet some friends to hike Cross-Chuckwalla the next day - didn't get home this night until midnight.

We climbed Schwaub peak and Gator surprised us with a couple of micro bottles of champagne on the summit. Not sure if this was wise for such crumbly ridgeline but we made it down ok.
